I grew up with finance at the dinner table. Those conversations with Dad, a financial adviser himself, got me curious. And like my old man, I can talk. So when the time came to choose a career path after uni, financial planning seemed like the natural fit.

I enjoy the technical side, but it’s the relationship you build over time with clients that make the job for me. I really enjoy talking to people about the stuff that’s important to them, swapping stories about family and holidays along the way.

And then there are the moments where you can really see the difference good advice makes. A teacher might come in worn down by the workload, not sure if they’ve got enough to stop and worried they’ll never get to enjoy retirement.

We sit down and map it all out on the whiteboard. I can show them they’ve got enough to retire and can maintain their lifestyle, even on a bare minimum return. You can see the weight lift off their shoulders.

Outside work, I’m usually travelling, road tripping, camping or fishing. And I’ll always make time for the footy.
